How to Store Sourdough Bread
Real sourdough has no preservatives, so a little care keeps it tasting fresh. Here's how to store your Daly Bread loaf, freeze it, and bring it back to life.
Days 1–2: on the counter
Keep your loaf cut side down on a cutting board, or in a paper or cloth bread bag. The crust stays crisp and the inside stays soft.
Skip plastic and the fridge
Plastic makes the crust soft and chewy. The fridge actually makes bread go stale faster. Counter or freezer only.
Day 3 and on: freeze it
Slice the loaf, put the slices in a freezer bag and press out the air. They keep for up to 3 months. Toast straight from frozen.
Bring a loaf back to life
Run the whole loaf quickly under the tap, then bake it at 350°F for 8–10 minutes. The crust crackles again, like it's fresh out of the oven.
Too far gone? Make something
Stale sourdough is perfect for croutons, bread pudding, French toast or breadcrumbs.
Got stale slices? Try the croutons, pumpkin chai bread pudding or French toast.
